What this is
Darton MID cylinder sleeves for the Hyundai Theta-2 engine, Darton part number 800-170-P. Darton lists them for finished bores from 86 mm up to a 90 mm maximum. They are a special order from the manufacturer, placed for each build.
Design
MID stands for Modular Integrated Deck. The sleeve flanges nest together to form a solid deck held in tension, which reinforces the upper deck of the block, and each sleeve can still be replaced on its own. MID sleeves are wet sleeves: coolant flows against the outside of the sleeve, and Darton ports it to the upper cylinder wall and flange area, where the heat is highest. The sleeves are Darton ductile iron, rated by Darton at 130,000 psi tensile strength, with a phosphate coating on the outside against corrosion.
