Motul Gear 300 75W-90 is Motul's ester-based racing lubricant for manual gearboxes and differentials. It uses the same ESTER Core technology as the 300V engine oils, reinforced with EP (extreme pressure) additives, and Motul specifies it for synchronised and non-synchronised gearboxes, combined gearbox/differential units, transfer cases and hypoid differentials working under shock and heavy load at low speed, or moderate load at high revs. It meets API GL-4 and API GL-5, and Motul also rates it above existing standards.

This is the standard Gear 300, not the limited-slip version. Motul specifies it for transmissions and hypoid differentials without limited-slip systems, so a car with a clutch-type LSD wants Motul Gear 300 LS 75W-90, which we list separately. Motul quotes zero shear loss — the oil still measures in grade 90 after the 20-hour KRL shear test required by SAE J306 — with a viscosity index of 171 and a −51 °C pour point, which is what gives easier shifts while the box is still cold. Motul rates it for both racing and street use.

Features:

  • 100% synthetic ester base — Motul ESTER Core technology, reinforced with EP (extreme pressure) additives
  • SAE 75W-90; meets API GL-4 and API GL-5, and Motul rates it above existing standards
  • Non-LS version: for gearboxes and hypoid differentials without limited-slip systems
  • Zero shear loss — stays in grade 90 after the SAE J306 KRL 20-hour shear test
  • Viscosity index 171, pour point −51 °C, flash point 206 °C, 87.7 mm²/s at 40 °C
  • Suitable for all seal types and the yellow metals used in gearbox design
  • Anti-corrosion, anti-foam and anti-emulsion
  • Motul rates it for both racing and street use; 1 litre (1.05 US qt) bottle

Fitment: Chosen by gearbox or differential rather than by car. Motul specifies it for all mechanical transmissions — synchronised or non-synchronised gearboxes, combined gearbox/differential units, transfer gearboxes and hypoid differentials without limited-slip systems — plus gear, bevel-gear, step-down, reduction and propeller drives running under shock and heavy load at low revolution speed, or moderate load at high revolution speed, where transmission performance needs to beat a grade 140 oil. It meets API GL-4 and API GL-5, so check which of the two your gearbox or diff calls for. Motul developed it for the gearboxes of racing and high-performance vehicles (track, speedway, rally, rally raid) but states it is suitable in both racing and street use, so it is not a track-only fluid. Motul says to take the oil change interval from the vehicle manufacturer's requirement and adjust it to your own use.

Please note: This is the non-LS version, which Motul specifies for transmissions and hypoid differentials without limited-slip systems, so a car with a clutch-type limited-slip diff needs Motul Gear 300 LS 75W-90 (the LS version we also stock) instead. Because this oil meets both API GL-4 and GL-5, still confirm which grade your gearbox or differential actually calls for before filling it.
