Fits: Hyundai and Kia 1.6T and 2.0T turbo engines that use this BOV control solenoid: the 2.0T N cars (Veloster N, Elantra N, Kona N) and the 1.6T cars (Veloster Turbo 2, Forte GT, Kona, Elantra GT). Choose by engine below.
What this is
A complete blow-off valve (BOV) solenoid upgrade kit that replaces your factory BOV control solenoid with our Signature Series Race Valve, a Pierburg valve made in Germany. It includes the valve, a wiring-harness conversion and the hoses needed to fit it, with no separate parts to source; the 1.6T version also adds a mounting bracket. It does not require ECU tuning.
The kit is developed in Canada and the USA and made in Canada. We have sold and run this valve for five years, with the only failures being units defective out of the box. It comes with black hoses. Design patent pending.
Signs your BOV solenoid is failing
A failing factory BOV control solenoid usually causes:
- A check-engine light, specifically fault code P2261
- The BOV opening when you're on throttle
- The BOV pulsating
Why the Pierburg valve
We use the same Pierburg valve here and in our EBCS wastegate solenoid upgrade, and we have not changed it. It has bigger ports and a bigger valve body for more airflow, responds more quickly to ECU inputs, and stays closed until the ECU commands it to open.
We have tested the kit for 36 months across 3 vehicles in 2 countries and 250,000 km with no issues, and we see less "rapid fire" from the BOV. Even our project Veloster N had a BOV solenoid fail on the dyno and was limited to 8 psi until this kit was fitted. We recommend it before tuning or running more boost.
What owners report
Owners report an easy install and a good fit, with no fault codes after fitting and smoother boost, tighter throttle response and no hesitation.
Features
- Complete kit: valve, harness, hoses and zip ties, plus a mounting bracket on the 1.6T version
- Pierburg Signature Series Race Valve, made in Germany
- Bigger ports and a bigger valve body for more airflow
- More responsive to ECU inputs; stays closed until commanded
- Does not require ECU tuning
- Developed in Canada and the USA, made in Canada
- Comes with black hoses
- Design patent pending
Options
- With bracket for 1.6T engine: the Pierburg valve on a bracket, a wiring-harness conversion, two sections of vacuum hose (to the BOV and the cold pipe) and zip ties.
- Without bracket for 1.6T/2.0T ("N" Vehicles): the valve, a wiring harness, hoses, and zip ties for the valve and the hoses.
- Without bracket for 2.0T ("N" Vehicles) engine with aftermarket FMIC (Longer Hoses): the same kit with longer hoses to clear an aftermarket front-mount intercooler.
The N-vehicle and aftermarket-FMIC kits differ only in hose length.
Installation
- Trim the hoses to length.
- Mount the valve and tie it down with the zip ties.
- Connect the hoses (one to the cold pipe, one to the intake, and the BOV port to the BOV) and plug in the harness.
- Drive.
The labelled photo below shows where each hose connects.
FAQ
Do I need an ECU tune to run this?
No. It does not require tuning; we recommend fitting it if you plan to tune or run more boost.
Which option do I choose?
For 1.6T engines, the with-bracket kit. For the 2.0T N cars, a without-bracket kit; choose the aftermarket-FMIC version if you run an aftermarket front-mount intercooler.
Will it help a check-engine light or a BOV that opens on throttle?
A failing BOV solenoid is the usual cause of P2261 and those symptoms, and this kit replaces it. We have also seen it help some cars with a BOV opening under full load, though we do not advertise it as a cure; if it helps, that is a bonus.
